Quick answer
PNR status shows whether your train ticket is confirmed, RAC or waiting list.
Railway passengers checking seat confirmation, chart status and journey details.
Train info, passenger-wise status, berth details, chart status and prediction.
What is PNR status?
PNR stands for Passenger Name Record. It is a unique 10 digit number generated for Indian railway ticket bookings. A PNR stores journey information such as train number, train name, boarding station, destination station, travel date, booking status, passenger status and chart preparation updates.
How to check PNR status
Enter the 10 digit PNR number and click check status. A proper PNR enquiry should validate the number, show loading feedback, return train details, display passenger-wise status and explain whether the ticket is confirmed, RAC or waiting list.
Status code meaning
| Status | Meaning | What it means for travel |
|---|---|---|
| CNF | Confirmed | Seat or berth confirmed |
| RAC | Reservation Against Cancellation | You can travel but may share berth |
| WL | Waiting List | Not confirmed yet |
Types of waiting list
Common waiting list types include GNWL, RLWL, PQWL and TQWL. GNWL usually has better confirmation chances than some quota-based waiting lists. RLWL and PQWL depend strongly on route and quota cancellation patterns.
Confirmation prediction
| Status | Chance | Guidance |
|---|---|---|
| WL 1–10 | High | Monitor regularly |
| WL 10–50 | Medium | Keep backup option |
| WL 50+ | Low | Consider alternatives |
| RAC | High | Travel allowed |
What is RAC?
RAC means Reservation Against Cancellation. RAC passengers can travel, but the berth may be shared until further cancellations occur. If cancellations happen before chart preparation, RAC may convert into confirmed status.
When is chart prepared?
Train reservation charts are usually prepared around 4 hours before departure. After chart preparation, final coach and berth allocation becomes clearer. For some early morning trains, chart preparation may happen earlier.
Why result explanation matters
Many passengers know the status code but do not know what to do next. A smart PNR tool should explain whether the ticket is safe for travel, whether a backup plan is needed and whether chart preparation may change the final result.
Trust and data source note
Official live railway data normally comes from authorized Indian Railways or approved partner systems. Public pages should clearly explain data limitations. This tool includes a frontend API hook so you can connect your approved data source without changing the UI.
